Saeed Taji Farouky
Saeed Taji Farouky is a Palestinian/British freelance documentary filmmaker, documentary photographer and print journalist. After studying Communication Theory at Tufts University and documentary photography at Boston’s School for the Museum of Fine Arts, he directed his first documentary in 2004. The same year, he founded the documentary production company Tourist With A Typewriter, dedicated to human rights and social justice documentaries.
His print and broadcast work focuses on the Middle East and North Africa where he has covered topics including the Western Sahara independence movement, the aftermath of the 2006 Israeli war on Lebanon and the siege on Gaza. His print work has been published by The Independent, The Guardian, The Telegraph, The Economist, BBC online and Reuters amongst others, and he has produced film work for broadcasters including Channel 4, Al-Jazeera International and CBC Canada.
Farouky is also a regular speaker for Amnesty International and a trainer/manager of participatory projects aimed at empowering marginalised communities using photography and video, and using media to monitor human rights abuses.
Farouky was elected to the board of the ABC in September 2008.
