SYRIA SPEAKS

29/01/2013 @ 7:45 pm - 9:30 pm

Southbank Centre Presents

SYRIA SPEAKS

In an evening of cutting-edge discussion, three Syrian writers offer their responses to the current crisis in their country and explore how literature can contribute to and shift our understanding of political instability.

Revered Arabic novelist Nihad Sirees is launching his first novel in English, ‘The Silence and the Roar’. He is joined by celebrated poet Golan Haji and Robin Yassin-Kassab, journalist and author of the novel ‘The Road from Damascus’.

– ‘So you’re forcing me to choose then, between the silence of prison and the noise of the regime?’
– ‘If I were you, I’d be more worried about the silence of the grave.’
Extract from ‘The Silence and the Roar’ by Nihad Sirees
