QUDDUSON: SACRED SONGS OF EAST AND WEST

Edward Wickham director
with
Abdul Salam Kheir voice, oud
Merit Ariane Stephanos voice
Shafiq Abouzayd voice

Emerging from Edward Wickham's work with choirs in the Middle East, Qudduson [meaning Sanctus - Holy] explores the music of the different faiths and cultures of East and West looking at what unites these two seemingly very different musical traditions.

Here The Clerks' award-winning performances of sacred music of the West are combined with the virtuoso singing of three Middle Eastern singers steeped in Islamic and Christian music. The high emotion of so much of this music, what has moved and consoled its listeners for hundreds of years, thrilled and inspired them, is a deep faith not just in religion, but in the expressive possibilities of the human voice.
