IZZELDIN ABUELAISH

Izzeldin Abuelaish is a Palestinian doctor, three of whose children were killed during the Israeli incursion into Gaza in January 2009. His memoir, I Shall Not Hate (Bloomsbury, 7 February 2011), tells the story of his remarkable life and his continuing quest for peace.

Abuelaish was born in a refugee camp in Palestine and as a doctor was determined to treat all patients equally, regardless of ethnic origin. He discusses his life and his hope for future peace between Israel and Palestine with Ghada Karmi, a Palestinian doctor of medicine and author of many books including In Search of Fatima: A Palestinian Story. Izzeldin Abuelaish was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2010.
