RAWIYA PHOTO COLLECTIVE
IN CONVERSATION WITH YASMINA REGGAD
Hosted by the Delfina Foundation, Dalia Khamissy, Tanya Habjouqa and Tamara Abdul Hadi from Rawiya photo collective will discuss the benefit of working collectively and will present their personal work in conversation with Yasmina Reggad (independent curator and director of Photo-Festivals).
Rawiya's members have been invited to participate in the 2nd Collectives Encounter at Format International Photo Festival (Derby) where they are launching the collective. Their artwork Deviation, commissioned by Yasmina Reggad, is part of the collective exhibition The Flâneur. The Dwelling Place of the Collective and will be exhibited at Format festival in Derby from 3rd March to 4th April 2011.
Rawiya (‘She Who Tells A Story' in Arabic) is a photography collective founded by five female photographers from across the Middle East, supported by the European Cultural Foundation. Rawiya's main aim is to tell stories of the region's development while engaging with social, cultural and political issues. Rawiya's members are Tamara Abdul Hadi (based in Ramallah), Laura Boushnak (based in Pristina and Beirut), Tanya Habjouqa (based in Jerusalem and Amman), Dalia Khamissy (based in Beirut) and Newsha Tavakolian (based in Tehran).
Yasmina Reggad is an independent curator based in the UK. She is the founder and director of Photo-Festivals which collaborates with photo festivals throughout the world. She developed international artistic programmes to promote diversity, inter-cultural dialogue and understanding through photography. Yasmina is presently curating 'The Flâneur. The Dwelling Place of the Collective', and co-curating the exhibitions of WPO's London Photography Festival.
