SHUBBAK: A WINDOW ON CONTEMPORARY ARAB CULTURE

The Arab British Centre is delighted to announce its partnership with Shubbak: A Window on Contemporary Arab Culture. 

London’s first ever celebration of contemporary culture from across the Arab world, Shubbak will encompass over seventy events in more than thirty key cultural venues throughout the city for three weeks from 4 – 24 July 2011.  The festival is organised by the Mayor of London and sponsored by HSBC.

Shubbak (the Arabic word for ‘window’) will feature a wide‐ranging programme of visual arts, film,music, theatre, dance, literature, architecture, lectures and discussion, many of them free, hosted by leading London cultural organisations.

The Arab British Centre will be coordinating three events that will feature in Shubbak:

• Breathing the Air  -- an exhibition by Gazan artist Majed Shala which will be shown in the Arab British Centre between 4 - 8 July 2011

• The Arabs: A History -- a talk by renowned scholar Eugene Rogan based on his best selling book at Foyles Bookshop on 13 July 2011

• 'The Arab Spring': A Literary Perspective -- a panel discussion featuring three authors from across the Arab world, chaired by Brian Whitaker at SOAS on 21 July 2011
