SINA ATA
WASTELANDSCAPES
On loss in three stages;
(acceptance, action, aftermath)
and on what remains
country, identity, lover…
The following is a collection of a journey through these territories,
at times familiar,
at times alien,
and at times wasted…
Sina Ata
It's that time of year again when the Art World in London gears up for Frieze and Janet Rady Fine Art are no exception to this. They are particularly proud to be showing a selection of Iraqi artist, Sina Ata's Wastelandscapes series of paintings, sculpture and videos.
The title, reminiscent of T. S. Elliot's epic poem 'The Waste Land', was originally inspired by events in Iraq but poignantly coincided with a loss on a more personal level, making the artist realise that these processes are quite similar in nature. Using the subtitle "The 3 stages of loss" namely acceptance, action and aftermath, Sina Ata expresses these feelings in a way that is spontaneous and angry, almost a rebellion. All the works were all done in single 'sittings'. He states 'I did not want to beautify the art piece, rather keep it as uninhibited as possible, and I realised that if I stop I will lose that sense of spontaneity.'
Sina Ata is based in Amman, Jordan. In 2006, his work featured in the British Museum's Word into Art Exhibition and is now in the Museum's collection.
