IN 2017

WE TURNED 40!
2017 marked 40 years since the founding of The Arab British Centre on 13 July 1977. Watch the film about our history here and about our 40th Anniversary Celebration and Award for Culture here.

WE TRAVELLED
Our Chairman and Executive Director participated in ‘Making Impact through Philanthropy’ at the British Embassy in Abu Dhabi and our SAFAR series travelled to Liverpool and to the Arab American Museum, Michigan!

WE SUPPORTED
We supported many projects including the 3rd edition of the AWAN Festival and ‘Pop Art from North Africa Exhibition’. Our grant scheme supported 8 cultural projects.

WE HOSTED
We hosted exhibitions such as Jewelled Tales of Libya & Audiovisability, and presented literary salons to commemorate the 10 year anniversary of the bombing of Al Mutanabbi St, and Refugee Week (to name but a few)!

WE ADDED NEW COURSES
We added new courses! In 2018 you can sign up to Modern & Contemporary Arab Art, Arabic Language, Calligraphy, Oud, Darbuka, Music Literacy and Storytelling workshops. You can book them here

WE LAUNCHED OUR WEBSITE
After a lot of hard work we launched our new website! It has a fresh new look and is more user friendly. You can submit your own events, check what’s on, book courses online, DONATE and more!

WE WERE BUSY
As well as managing the Centre and its activities, our dream team got up to all sorts! Nadia El-Sebai was awarded the Asfari Foundation Alumni Achievement Prize, Amani Hassan was guest speaker for King’s College London’s MA in Cultural Management, and Rosa Perez participated on a panel on Tunisian Contemporary Cinema at FCAT Film Festival.

THANK YOU!
