Aser El Saqqa & Manal Massalha, are organising a panel discussion & a live DJ set exploring Palestinian wedding music.

Speakers : Dr Khaled Dawas, Razi Khadir , Aser El Saqqa and Manal Massalha.
DJ : Jan Hoozee from Belgium.

With a special focus on Shafiq Kabha, “Godfather of Palestinian Folktronica,” the evening will discuss and celebrate Shafig’s legacy as experienced by Palestinians from across the geographical divide, and how it continues to shape Palestinian culture and musicians in Palestine & beyond.

Shafiq (1960-2013) An innovative force, he preserved & united a dismembered, geographically divided post-1948 Palestinian culture, while transforming its music for generations to come. Blending genres and instruments: folklore & pop, drum & beat, mijwiz & keyboard, oud & bass, Shafig, alongside fellow musicians from his village, formed a band in the 1970s & began performing at weddings.
