Suppliants of Syria

3 March '26 at 7:30 pm - 8 March '26 at 7:30 pm

What does it mean to seek asylum, to flee war and persecution, to claim your place in a new land?

Inspired by Aeschylus’s SUPPLIANTS, an ancient Greek play about women fleeing war, SUPPLIANTS OF SYRIA reimagines these questions for our time.

Developed with Syrian refugee women in Adana, Turkey, this multimedia play weaves together live performance, movement and filmed testimonies to create a powerful dialogue across time, gender and geography, between those who cross borders and those who draw them.

As the audience encounter these women and their powerful stories, they are invited to join the unfolding debate. SUPPLIANTS OF SYRIA challenges us to confront the role of media, prejudice and conscience in shaping our responses to those who seek refuge.

The development phases of SUPPLIANTS OF SYRIA was supported by the British Council’s Creative Collaborations Grant Programme, the Anna Lindh Foundation and Arts Council England.
