This event will mark the publication of the book Archiving Gaza in the Present, co-edited by Professor Dina Matar and Dr Venetia Porter.
What does it mean to archive during a livestreamed and unfolding genocide in Gaza? How do we address the act of archiving as a productive and imaginative process that responds to destruction and erasure? How do artists and other cultural producers think about the archive and its de-colonial potential in one of the darkest periods for Palestinians?
Join co-editors Dina Matar and Venetia Porter in discussion with some of the books contributors including Malak Mattar, Rachel Dedman and Seif al-Rashidi. The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Zerrin Biner Arroyo-Kalin from the Department of Anthropology, SOAS.
This event is free to attend, but registration is required. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
The event is co-sponsored by the Centre for Palestine Studies, SOAS and Saqi Books. Archiving Gaza in the Present is published in partnership with the Arab British Centre.
