Call out for Jarda  جاردا – Manchester Workshops

18 May '21 - 4 June '21

Read the Arab Britain Jarda Call Out in Arabic

Arab Britain is our programme that explores the history, achievements and experiences of Arabs in Britain. Our long term goal is to create a story archive of Arab British experiences, platforming personal stories of migration, diaspora, and the intricacies of the “Arab British” experience, in all its intersections and diversity. Leading up to this, we aim to run opportunities across the country for people to reflect on the theme and contribute through workshops, exhibitions, and other creative commissions. We are pleased to introduce the first of these projects, Jarda  جاردا led by artist and curator Jessica El Mal.

We are currently looking for participants in Manchester to take part in a series of workshops focused on art, nature and identity, creating artwork using photography, collage, self-portraiture and more. The results of these workshops will be exhibited at the People’s History Museum as part of their Migration Season and will be accompanied by a digital campaign. This workshop is the first of hopefully many opportunities across the country for people to reflect on the theme and contribute through workshops, exhibitions, and other creative commissions.

We are particularly interested in hearing from participants of Arab* heritage. This is a women only group, inclusive of anyone who identifies as a woman or non-binary.

Workshops will run in-person throughout June. We will cover travel expenses and offer a participation fee for taking part.

No experience required to take part! To sign up or ask any questions email contact@elmalart.com with your
