Making Marks: ConnectME is our new collaborative digital residency programme, in partnership with the British Council, focused on connecting artists aged 18-30 based in the GCC countries (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia) and the United Kingdom.
Over the past month Rawan AlMahrouqi (Oman) and Alexis Maxwell (UK), and Alaa Tarabzouni (Saudi Arabia) and Ellie Niblock (UK) have been creating new, collaborative work that considers how digital tools can encourage connectivity across borders. From 3D scanning found objects posted from the Gulf to the UK, to exploring parallel experiences through animation, each pair has run with the brief and we are so excited to share what they’ve produced. Their work will be launched digitally on 1 September and hosted on the new Making Marks platform www.makingmarks.uk
Alaa, Ellie, Rawan and Alexis will be offering insight into their commissions and their experiences of the residency in a virtual Artist Talk on 2 September at 1pm GMT+1. Register now to reserve your place and be part of the discussion. To find out more about each of the artists, click here.
