Building on the success of our sale in April, our upcoming Modern & Contemporary Middle Eastern & African Art on Friday 29 October at 10am, features a range of artworks dating from the 20th century up until the present-day from the Arab world, Iran and North Africa. For the first time, we are pleased to include a section dedicated to African artists from the broader continent.
Highlights include two works from the former collection of Dr Said Mohamed Farsi by the celebrated Egyptian artist, Hamad Abdalla, renowned for having invented a kind of Arabic hieroglyphics suggesting human figures with Arabic words. Other works in the sale include an important work by the Algerian artist Baya, exhibited at the Algerian Embassy in Rome in 1995 and a painting by Mozambican / Italian artist Bertina Lopes which was created for an exhibition in Baghdad in 1981.
