The World Metal Congress is pleased to host the premiere of the documentary film Syrian Metal is War by Syrian filmmaker Monzer Darwish. The film was shot on location at the height of the Syrian conflict and tells the story of the war’s impact on heavy metal musicians in Syria–some fled, some joined the fighting, and many defied all odds to keep playing music and performing under the bombs. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the director and with Jake Shuker, the frontman of Damascus-based heavy metal band Maysaloon.
