The Illuminated Paths: New Poetry from North Africa

30 September '19 at 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm

Join Modern Poetry in Translation for the launch of their Maghreb focus, The Illuminated Paths, featuring some of the most exciting emerging poets from across North Africa.

As part of the British Council’s Majaaz project, ten poets writing in Arabic, Arabic dialect and Tamazight were brought together in Tunisia last summer with some of the UK’s best poets to make collaborative translations. This event will be a celebration of the exhilarating translations that emerged from the project and the friendships that developed.

Introduced by editor Clare Pollard, this evening will feature readings from Fatma Krouma and Ashref Kerkeni (Tunisia), Adil Latefi and Nassima Raoui (Morocco), Fadhila Bechar and Mohamed Rafik Taibi (Algeria), and the UK poet-translators Victoria Adukwei Bulley, Vidyan Ravinthiran, Stewart Sanderson, Adham Smart and Martha Sprackland.

This event is part of the British Council’s Africa in London series.
