Through the Moroccan Lens – AWAN festival X Fhamtini

6 April '25 at 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm

Join AWAN and Fhamtini for a special programme celebrating Moroccan cinema curated by French-Moroccan programmer Imane Lamime.
Don’t miss a rare chance to catch a collection of animated shorts by Casablanca-born Sofia El Khyari, followed by Maryam Touzani’s mesmerising debut Adam.

Morocco’s 2019 Oscar entry, Adam tells the story of Abla, who runs a bakery from her home in Casablanca where she lives with her 8-year-old daughter Warda. One day their routine is interrupted by a knock on the door and the arrival of Samia – a young pregnant woman looking for a job and a roof .

This screening will be preceded by an introduction from Imane Lamime (Fhamtini) & Aser El Saqqa (AWAN) and there will be an intermission following the short films.

“Fhamtini?” means “do you understand me?” or “do you get it?” in Darija, the Moroccan dialect. Fhamtini showcases the diversity of the films born in the Maghreb region and the experiences of its diaspora rarely shown on the big screen.
