Alien Land

9 March '18 at 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm

Straight from a sold-out run at VAULT Festival, Momin Swaitat’s black comedy Alien Land comes to Aberdeen.

Alien Land is a solo show inspired by Palestinian writer Emile Habibi’s 1974 “The Secret Life of Saeed the Pessoptimist” – the first science fiction novel in the Middle East. As both a Bedouin and a Palestinian refugee, the play draws on Mo’min’s family history and recollections of growing up in a world turned upside down, as well as his experience of leaving Palestine to travel and eventually settle in the UK.

Merging the ancient Arab tradition of the ‘hakawati’ (travelling storyteller) with physical theatre, mask and
mime, it looks at Palestinian history and folklore and the contemporary refugee experience from a radically new perspective.
