An Evening to celebrate the winning translation “The President’s Gardens”

14 February '19 at 6:30 pm to 8:45 pm

This Evening event is a celebration of literary translation Arabic to English, with Luke Leafgren, the winning translator for his translation, The President’s Gardens and the novel’s author, Iraqi writer Muhsin Al-Ramli. Along with Chair of Judges Pete Ayrton, founder of Serpent’s Tail publishers, and Paul Starkey, Chair of the Banipal Trust.

From the Judges’ report: Tender, funny, tragic, wise and poetic, The President’s Garden is imbued with the richness and complexity of a region that has known little peace over the last century. Luke Leafgren’s translation conveys beautifully the spirit and idiosyncrasies of the original. It is a seamless rendering of an outstanding work of fiction.

All Welcome. This is a free event, but you need to register on this Waterstones link to reserve your place.
