Bahrain Art Week – Accumulation: Legacy and Memory

21 November '18 at 9:00 am - 28 November '18 at 6:00 pm

Art Bahrain Across Borders (ArtBAB) opens this week for Bahrain Art Week in London, presenting Accumulation: Legacy and Memory at Alon Zakaim Fine Arts from 21st – 28th November. This fascinating exhibition is co-curated by ArtBAB’s director Kaneka Subberwal and Amal Khalaf, of The Serpentine Gallery, and one of the only female curators from Bahrain.

These powerhouse creative women are opening the doors to the historical and artistic Middle East with Accumulation, which explores the rich cultural legacies of Bahrain’s arts, crafts, and architecture.

Accumulation features interdisciplinary works by 11 artists, including Hala Kaiksow, a finalist for Jameel Prize 5, currently exhibiting at the V&A. Kaiksow is a weaver and designer who incorporates traditional Bahraini craftsmanship with her incredible contemporary designs. Kaiksow’s Wandress collection effortlessly combines modern and traditional craft for a luxurious clothing collection for women.

The encounters that unfold through the artists’ works, which include videos, paintings and sculpture, draw links between the concepts of legacy, memory and value, and explore the relationship between modernity and tradition.
