Friday Hangout #9 with Selma Dabbagh

29 May '20 at 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm

Our Friday Hangout series brings together people interested in Arab culture for an online chat over their lunch breaks, wherever they may be currently ‘locked down’ in the world.

This Friday we’re delighted to welcome author Selma Dabbagh as our co-host.

Selma is a British Palestinian writer of fiction. Born in Scotland, she has lived in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, France, Egypt and the West Bank. As a lawyer, she has worked for human rights non-governmental organisations and on international criminal law cases in London. Her first novel, ‘Out of It,’ (Bloomsbury, 2011) set between London, Gaza and the Gulf was listed as a Guardian Book of the Year. She has also written radio plays for BBC Radio 4 and WDR in Germany, short stories for outlets such as Granta and International PEN and written for film and stage. Her non-fiction has appeared in the Guardian, London Review of Books and other publications.

Join us on Friday as we chat to Selma about her category-defying writing career so far and discuss some of her recent works, including her new editorial project with Saqi Books: an anthology of lust and erotica by Arab women, which currently has an open call for submissions.
