The Chilingirian String Quartet give the first London performance of Kareem Roustoms’ ‘Shades of Night’.
Kareem Roustom, born in Damascus in 1972, is possibly the most interesting composer to have emerged from the Middle East over the last few years: born in Damascus, Syria, in 1972 he now lives in Boston USA.
He is the first Arab composer to have been twice commissioned by Daniel Barenboim and tomorrow (6/03/2019) his Violin Concerto will have its première in Berlin performed by Michael Barenboim with the Pierre Boulez Ensemble.
On March 16th the German company Dreyer-Gaido will issue a new CD of his Clarinet Concerto played by Kinan Azmeh with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. This concert will also include a performance of the rarely heard string quartet by Thea Musgrave (b.1928).
Tickets can be bought from the Southbank Centre.
