Limbs of the Lunar Disc: Isthmus Ancient River (Liverpool Arab Arts Festival)

11 July '25 at 10:00 am - 20 July '25 at 5:00 pm

Limbs of the Lunar Disc headed to the Liverpool Arab Arts Festival.

Viewers were invited to follow an Ancestor on their journey down the river of time, from the faraway future to the present, encountering the remnants of ecological destruction left by their descendants.

Blending Indigenous timekeeping systems with speculative fiction, Limbs of the Lunar Disc reimagined time beyond colonial constructs, prioritising intergenerational connection in the wake of environmental destruction.

The exhibition was accompanied by a free performance lecture by Sarah Al-Sarraj at 1pm on Saturday 12th July.

Sarah Al-Sarraj is a visual artist and cultural worker. Her practice centres on worldbuilding as a creative and critical process, where painting and immersive technologies are understood as portals to other worlds.

Limbs of the Lunar Disc was co-commissioned by the Arab British Centre and Shubbak Festival, featuring works commissioned by the Mechatronic Library. Curated by Jessica El Mal as part of As We Are, Might Have Been and Could Be, and hosted at The World Museum. Supported by Arts Council England and Freelands Foundation.

Limbs of the Lunar Disc: Isthmus Ancient River will run from 11-20th July 2025 at the World Museum in Liverpool. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday 10:00 am-5:00 pm.

The exhibition, part of the Liverpool Arab Arts Festival 2025, is free to visit and had an accompanying events programme.
