Online Event: Against Disappearance, A series of discussions about cultural heritage – Talk 2

9 March '21 at 2:00 pm to 3:15 pm

Booking has opened for the second free discussion in the popular series Against Disappearance, in which Shubbak Festival and the British Council invite historians, writers, activists, curators and archeologists to explore our complex relationship with cultural heritage.

Featuring writer and publisher Abu Amirah, writer and historian Marina Warner, and writer and activist Hammour Ziada, the contributors will explore the different legacies of cultural and commercial exchange, and how some stories of migration, power and trade are told. Their discussion will be centred around the cultural context of African, Arab and European influences in Sudan and the Swahili coast. It will be framed by examples of heritage across Lamu, Mobassa and Omdurman to illustrate the fragility of the material traces of complex and shared histories.
