Open Call for Jameel Prize 7

3 September '23 at 12:01 am - 15 October '23 at 11:59 pm

The Jameel Prize is the V&A’s triennial award for contemporary art and design inspired by Islamic art, culture, history and ideas.

Jameel Prize 7 is devoted to moving image and digital media work. We invite applications from artists and designers working with film, video, and time-based media, and those whose practices engage with established and emerging technologies, such as digital art, digital design, animation, virtual reality, projection mapping, and the internet. We are also interested in those using digital technologies to advance and reinvent analogue and hand-made art and design practices.

Artists’ work must also engage meaningfully with an aspect of Islamic culture – we define this broadly. Explore previous finalists’ work here: https://www.vam.ac.uk/info/jameel-prize

An international jury will select finalists in November 2023. An exhibition of their work will open at the V&A in November 2024, when a single winner will receive £25,000. In 2025, the exhibition will tour elsewhere in the UK, and to Hayy Jameel in Jeddah.

Applications are open until 15 October. Any questions, write to Jameel Curator Rachel Dedman, r.dedman@vam.ac.uk
