See Saudi Arabia’s first feature film #Wadjda at @Screen25Cinema’s Pay As You Feel screening on Fri 11 Oct. There’s no ticket price! Donate however much you want and all proceeds go towards the cinema and their partnered charity @YallaHub.
When the parents of Wadjda, a spirited 10-year-old living in Riyadh, refuse to buy her a bicycle, she decides to enter a Quran recitation competition at her school in the hope of winning enough money to buy her own. Earnest but gently optimistic, and full of flashes of humour, Haifaa al Mansour’s debut film illuminates the restrictions faced by women throughout Saudi Arabia, whilst also presenting its young protagonist as defiant and fabulously indefatigable.
After the screening, the Yalla Hub will be discussing the work they do with migrant and BAME women and holding a reflection circle.
There is no fixed price for this event. Simply pay what you think it’s worth, either online (£1 minimum + booking fee) or on the door. 25% of your donations will go to Yalla Hub.
