PlayArabic:إلعبي-بالعربي/

26 November '18 at 10:30 am to 11:30 am

A once monthly, parent-led playgroup for Under 5 year olds, encouraging spoken Arabic through songs, stories and play.

We sing modern and traditional nursery songs, tell and read stories and play simple parent-and-baby games. Arabic speaking parents are invited to participate in singing songs, reading a story, and to chat in Arabic to explore differences in regional dialects. There will be simple musical/ percussive instruments, singing live songs, books to share, silk veils to play with, as well as recorded music to sing along to. This is a new parent-led group, which aims to immerse babies and children in the Arabic language.

Sessions are led by artist and community worker, Tara Jaffar, with experience in leading and supporting creative workshops that encourage wellbeing in children, teens and adults. Tara is British Iraqi, born in Baghdad, with two children under 5 years, and is keen to start this playgroup to benefit her own children as well as meet other parents interested in preserving their linguistic and cultural roots in a creative and fun way!
