The Art of Exile: A Filmmaking Masterclass with Koutaiba Al-Janabi

15 June '19 at 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm

Koutaiba is an award winning independent film maker, originally from Baghdad, and has been producing his own short films, documentaries and feature films, working with the topic of exile.

He will be talking about his 40 years behind the film camera and his journey through exile.

As part of the session Koutaiba will screen his creative feature documentary, best international experimental feature film award winner at the 2019 London International Motion Picture Awards, “Stories of Passers Through”, also excerpts from his British Independent Film Award winning, critically acclaimed feature film “Leaving Baghdad” and from his short films, as well as examples of his still photography from his series taken in the Palestinian refugee camps in the Lebanon in the early 80ies – where his attachment to the displaced and outsiders has started from.

The session will be moderated by David Somerset, curator at the BFI and Koutaiba will be joined by Hugh Williams, the creative editor of Koutaiba’s latest feature film “The Woodman”, currently in post production, with excerpts of this work-in-progress film also being presented.
