The United Nations and The British Museum presents: The Poetess

21 October '18 at 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm

The United Nations and The British Museum present a screening of: ‘The Poetess’

A documentary film directed by Stefanie Brockhaus & Andreas Wolff.
Run time: 90 minutes

Saudi poetess Hissa Hilal made headlines around the world as the first woman to reach the finals of the Arab world’s biggest televised poetry competition, Million’s Poet. This film is the inspiring story of a woman risking her personal safety and seizing an opportunity, live on TV in front of 75 million viewers, to use her wit and lyricism to critique patriarchal society and religious extremism, and to urge a more peaceful Islam.

This screening is being held with the British Museum as part of a new exhibition, guest curated by the journalist, satirist, writer and broadcaster Ian Hislop, called I, Object.
