Yair Dalal and Ahmed Mukthar: Taqasim on Oud

12 February '19 at 7:45 pm to 10:00 pm

The Ismaili Centre, London and The Woolf Institute, Cambridge present:

Yair Dalal and Ahmed Mukhtar: Taqasim on Oud

An evening of original Arabic music with Yair Dalal and Ahmed Mukhtar. Yair Dalal, the acclaimed oud and violin virtuoso, will perform music from the Iraqi Jewish repertoires of Baghdad. Ahmed Mukhtar, internationally renowned oud and violin virtuoso and composer, will perform music from the ancient Arabic maqam repertoire of Iraq. They will end with a joint taqasim performance, an instrumental improvisation that usually precedes an Arabic musical composition.

There will also be a pre-concert discussion where the Woolf Institute’s Dr. Merav Rosenfeld-Hadad will discuss with Dalal and Mukhtar Arabic music and the work of Iraqi music specialist, the late Yehezkel Kojaman.

The evening is intended to create a space for dialogue between Jewish and Muslim communities through shared music.
