Yasmine Hamdan

12 June '18 at 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm

Lebanese singer-songwriter Yasmine Hamdan is one of the most groundbreaking musicians in the Arab world, thanks in part to her work in the electronic indie band Soapkills, and to her solo music which has become the soundtrack to the vibrant, young arts scene which developed in postwar Lebanon.

Her solo material has proved sleeker and more sophisticated over two albums: 2013’s Ya Nass (Hey People), and the dreamy electronica of last year’s Al Jamilat (The Beautiful Ones), released on Crammed Discs, a label also home to the likes of Acid Arab and Baloji.

Also an actress in Jim Jarmusch’s Only Lovers Left Alive, Hamdan possesses an allure unlike anyone else; her singing is both casual and provocative, framed by provocative and commanding movements.
