Job Summary

The Arab British Centre is excited to offer the role of Content Creator and Digital Marketing Assistant via the Government Kickstart Scheme. 

The Arab British Centre is an award-winning, charitable organisation which works to improve the British public’s understanding of the Arab world. We organise and promote cultural and artistic events that showcase arts and creativity from the Arab world and its diaspora, and we support artists and cultural producers to develop new skills and connect to audiences across the UK and Middle East North Africa. Our flagship programmes are the SAFAR Film Festival, Arab Britain and our Award for Culture. Other recent projects include international exchange programme Making Marks and Digital Artist resident ConnectME.  We also run courses online and in person for Arabic Language, Arts and Music.  We support resident organisations with affordable office at our Central London premises. After significantly increasing our digital output over the last two years, we are adding a new role dedicated to Content Creation and Digital Marketing to continue building on this momentum.

Through our various digital channels we promote our activities as well as others that spotlight arts and culture from the Arab world and its diaspora. The successful candidate will assist in the creation of this content whilst also researching and generating ideas to reach new audiences.

This role is based at The Arab British Centre, 1 Gough Square, EC4A 3DE, and the candidate will be required to work from the Centre. Hybrid working (In person and remote working), will be possible after a period of training and induction. A laptop will be provided.

 

Key responsibilities

Research and write copy for social media posts, blogs, newsletters and other promotional materials.

Attend events on behalf of the Arab British Centre to cover on social media.

Conduct interviews for the Centre’s own social media channels and website.

Support marketing campaigns for the Centre’s events and activities, such as the Centre’s courses, The SAFAR Film Festival, Arab Britain, and our Award for Culture.

Assist with the maintenance of the Arab British Centre’s websites via WordPress

Work as part of a team to develop larger PR campaigns for large scale events, keeping the database of press and media contacts updated, managing press enquiries and assisting with press liaison during events.

Take part in training opportunities provided by the Arab British Centre. The candidate may also choose to take part in any of the Arab British Centre’s courses* including Arabic Language, Islamic Art and Architecture, Contemporary Calligraphy and or a range of music courses. *subject to availability.

 

Ad Hoc Responsibilities

Answer the main phone-line to respond to and pass on enquiries.

Monitor the Arab British Centre’s general email address and respond to customer enquiries.

 

Skills Needed 

The successful candidate will have excellent written and spoken English language skills.

They will be familiar with prominent social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and will be eager to build their social media, content creation, and digital marketing skillset.
The candidate will demonstrate interest and knowledge of arts and culture from the Arab world.

The candidate will preferably have 3 months + experience in a prior role (including internships, volunteering), in a relevant area (media/PR, charity, art organisation, community enterprise, museum, art collections/foundations, etc).

The candidate will be comfortable using MS Office and virtual video call tools such as MS Teams and Zoom.

Spoken and written Arabic is a benefit, but not a requirement of the role.

Additional Employability Support
 
The candidate will develop their digital marketing skills through in-house training, hands-on learning, and enrolment on relevant professional development courses such as UAL’s Social Media Marketing Online Short Course.

Throughout the placement the candidate will gain experience in digital marketing and communications, content development, social media and website management, online project events delivery, customer services, and other essential administration skills needed to work in the charity and cultural sector.

They will be supported throughout their placement by their line manager and have monthly coaching sessions with the Centre’s Executive Director to discuss progress and personal and professional development goals.
