The Arab British Centre is governed by a board of trustees who bring with them a wealth of personal and professional experience of the Arab world.

 

Sir Derek Plumbly

Chairman / Trustee

Sir Derek Plumbly has long experience as a diplomat and international official in the Arab world. From 2012 to 2015 he was the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon.

Randa Achmawi

Trustee

Randa Achmawi is a journalist, political commentator and consultant on MENA region politics and inter-cultural affairs based in London and Cairo

Maytham Akbar

Trustee

Maytham Akbar is an Investment Banker. Maytham has worked with the firm since 2005 following his Politics and Economics degree at the University of York.

Haroun Soud Al-Mishwit

Trustee

Haroun is a Kuwaiti/American investor based in London. He currently works with Goldman Sachs International in an investment role.

Laila El Baradei

Trustee

Laila El Baradei is qualified as a lawyer in England and New York and is a graduate of the London School of Economics, Georgetown University and the School of Oriental and African Studies.

Brian Constant CBE

Hon. Treasurer / Trustee

Between 1957 and 1970 Brian worked in various managerial posts for the Ottoman Bank in Iraq, Jordan, Qatar, Sudan and Abu Dhabi.

Lizzy Moriarty

Lizzy has worked in the museum sector for over fifteen years most recently at the British Museum where she was responsible for developing the Museum’s international partnerships through consultancy and capacity building projects.

Saeed Taji Farouky

Saeed Taji Farouky is a Palestinian-British filmmaker and artist who has been producing work around themes of conflict, human rights and colonialism since 1998.
